BRINGING BACK THE SANDER
“BRING BACK THE SANDER KORYNN…”
Yep, I heard you loud and clear…
EXCAVATED LANDSCAPES ARE BACK, and I could not be more excited to launch this latest collection with Curatorial & Co.
Nature erodes, sculpting its own masterpieces. It floods to nourish, burns to renew, and exists in a relentless cycle of destruction and rebirth. As does my creative process.
It is the tension held between these polarities that I am most interested in capturing as part of my latest collection of Excavated Landscapes.
Colour speaks in many volumes and creates a variety of conversations across the surface of a painting. Colour blocking my compositions from the bones up and strategically planning how each colour communicates on top of one another has formed a methodology to bring depth and dimension to each composition. Each surface, sculpted over time reaches an energetic point of tension, before finally saying goodbye and sealing it with a thick final coat. This ritualistic burial has become an integral part of my artistic practice. As in nature, destruction must occur in order to give birth to something new.

Revisiting each painting for the excavation phase is like searching for buried treasure. In many ways I have forgotten what lies beneath the surface. With power tools in hand I slowly excavate my way through the layers of pigment back into the bones of each landscape, recurating and shaping the composition as I go. This process is a dance between control and surrender as I allow the history of each surface to organically reveal itself as perfect imperfection.
